1000 Degrees Pizzeria ready to heat up Sioux City market

SIOUX CITY — The pizza scene in Sioux City will soon heat up with the upcoming arrival of 1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria.

When this location opens May 1 at 1388 Hamilton Blvd., it will mark the three-year-old New Jersey-based pizza chain’s first foray into Iowa.

What separates 1000 Degrees from other pizza joints is that customers walk in and order through a build-your-own pizza type of assembly line, similar to going to a Chipotle or Subway restaurant. The made-to-order pizzas are then cooked in a 1000-degree custom Neapolitan oven in just two minutes.

Founded by Brian Petruzzi, 1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria is a rapidly growing franchise that has added dozens of locations coast to coast since the first restaurant opened in Galloway, New Jersey, in 2014.

Jesse Miller and Scott Salem will serve as co-general managers of the Sioux City restaurant. It will be located in a retail center bounded by Hamilton, Wesley Parkway and 14th Street whose tenants currently include a Scooter’s Coffee House.

Miller’s family previously owned the former Bev’s on the River, and Salem served as the general manager of the restaurant overlooking the Missouri River before it closed Jan. 1. The former Bev’s space will be converted into a Crave restaurant, which is set to open sometime in February.

Becca Feauto, a local spokeswoman for 1000 Degree Neapolitan Pizzeria, said bringing the chain to Hamilton Boulevard was intentionally done to help rejuvenate the area after a rash of businesses moved out of the neighborhood over the last few years.

1000 Degrees pizzas come in either 10-inch or 14-inch sizes with unlimited toppings, and there are nearly 20 vegetable selections, eight sauces to choose from, seven types of cheese, seven meat varieties, and two kinds of crusts, one of which is gluten-free, made fresh from tipo 00 flour, and is mixed using an authentic fork-style mixer.

For the non-creative types, there are also 15 types of pizzas on the menu, including “Smokey Pollo,” which features a sweet and smokey bourbon barbecue sauce, roasted chicken, bacon, red onion, red peppers, pineapple, shredded mozzarella and bleu cheese, and other pizzeria standards like pepperoni, an all-meat selection and a classic margherita.

In addition to pizza, 1000 Degrees has salads, which also can be customized, fire roasted wings that come in six flavors and breadsticks made from fresh dough.

Feauto thinks the addition of 1000 Degrees to the Sioux City market will provide people with a low-cost and convenient dining option in an inviting atmosphere.

“From the photos that I’ve seen, it is a really nice establishment — nice tile and color choices — so it’s not your dive pizza place and it’s a place where you can go and get a pizza for an affordable price and bring the kids out or have a date night if you want,” she said.
